RECOLLECTIONS OF LIGHT REMAIN: Engineered Garments. Fall Winter 2024
The Engineered Garments Fall Winter 2024 collection concludes a trilogy of seasonal explorations by designer Daiki Suzuki, centering on his experiences with fashion in the 1980s and how his perceptions of that time have evolved over the decades.
In the early 1980s, Daiki was deeply inspired by European and Japanese designers' bold reimagining of pattern, proportion, and construction. These influences evoked profound emotions, shaping his understanding of design as both a craft and a critique. Recollections of Light Remain is rooted in these subjective memories—moments of inspiration, cultural shifts, and the tension between embracing something new and questioning its place.
This collection brings those impressions into dialogue with Engineered Garments’ established design language. The interplay between simplicity and complexity, convention and innovation, reflects Daiki’s journey: balancing adherence to tradition with a desire to break its rules.
A short film by New York-based director Manabu "Gaku" Inada accompanies the collection, capturing how Daiki transforms memory and inspiration into tangible designs. The film highlights both the technical process and the reflective lens that defines Recollections of Light Remain, mirroring the collection’s balance of past and present.
