"I think it all started with a simple fact: when I was a child, I remember being fascinated by a new kind of sneaker I saw at the time that used Velcro instead of laces. Since then, I’ve owned and worn several sneakers that used two-strap or three-strap Velcro closures.
KARHU and Engineered Garments reunite for their third collaboration. Drawing from KARHU’s rich archive, Engineered Garments founder, Daiki Suzuki, seamlessly merges the iconic Mestari 76 running shoe with KARHU’s cross-country skiing shoe, the Sprint, in an eye-catching and asymmetric design. Tarvas: "Daiki-san, we would like to start by going back to 2018, when we sent you an email out of the blue and introduced our then 6 months old Tarvas brand. At that time Tarvas was almost unknown, producing from Helsinki, Finland, it still feels fantastic that we connected creatively and from different sides of the globe. Do you recall your firstreaction to Tarvas that made you think: "I want to work with these makers"?"
Daiki: The biggest factor was probably Takuya, the store manager, convincing me. I didn’t know about Tarvas or its background at the time.
Working side by side with Allen Edmonds artisans in Port Washington, Wisconsin, Engineered Garments founder, Daiki Suzuki created a shoe inspired by freedom of movement and the power of creative connections represented by handcrafted, patchwork uppers.
